The government acknowledges the opportunities for action identified through the 2022 Review and will continue to work closely with people with disability, public transport operators and providers, and governments to ensure the Transport Standards remain up-to-date, efficient, effective and achieve their objective to eliminate discrimination as far as possible against people with disability.
Some of these are already being addressed through the reform package announced earlier this year, which will modernise the Transport Standards to ensure they remain effective. To learn more about the reform package, visit Reform of the Disability Standards for Accessible Public Transport 2002.
Additionally, many of the issues highlighted relating to air travel are being addressed through the Aviation White Paper. To learn more about the Aviation White Paper, visit Aviation White Paper—Towards 2050.
Purpose
The Transport Standards provide requirements for public transport operators and providers to make their services accessible and remove discrimination for people with disability.
Every 5 years, the Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development, in consultation with the Attorney-General, is required to review the efficiency and effectiveness of the Transport Standards. The review must:
- report on the effectiveness and efficiency of the Transport Standards
- report on whether discrimination has been removed as far as possible
- include any necessary amendments to the Transport Standards.
For more information on past reviews, see the Reviews of the Transport Standards page.
