Summary

This report investigates strategies that would be effective and practicable in reducing driver fatigue long distance road transport industry. Information was collected from correspondence and consultations with international authorities in the area, consultations with major employer and employee organisations in Australia, and a questionnaire based survey of 960 drivers across Australia. It includes assessments of the extent of the problem, and attitudes to a range of possible solutions by these groups, as well as analysis of the experience of fatigue by empIoyment status and type of driving operation (two-up, staged etc).
