The Australian Government has outlined its new Statement of Expectations for NBN Co
The Statement of Expectations, which was issued by the Minister for Communications and Minister for Finance, guides NBN Co to ensure its strategic direction is aligned with the Government’s objectives for the National Broadband Network (NBN)
The NBN forms a key part of Australia’s economic and social architecture, keeping families connected, supporting businesses, and facilitating services to many Australians.
Delivery of faster, more reliable and affordable internet access for all Australians, and enabling them to make the most of the ever-expanding digital economy, are at the heart of the Statement.
It also lays out expectations for the company to deliver improvements to the NBN, while keeping prices affordable, and also points to broader objectives like digital inclusion, First Nations Australians’ connectivity, and the Government’s commitment to achieving Net Zero emissions by 2050.
With bushfire and storm season well underway, the Statement highlights the importance of NBN Co focusing on the resilience of our network.
It also confirms that the Government will keep NBN Co in public hands for the foreseeable future. The announcement of the Statement of Expectations follows the Government’s delivery of its October 2022–23 Budget commitment of $2.4 billion over four years, to expand full-fibre access to 1.5 million premises across the nation by 2025.
