Motorists are urged not to compromise on road safety during this busy holiday season.
Over Christmas, there is an increase of road usage as people enjoy the festive season and visit family members and loved ones.
Nearly 1,200 people have been killed on Australian roads in the year ending in October this year—a 6 per cent increase of road deaths compared to the previous 12 months.
Those travelling this Christmas are urged to play their part in keeping themselves and others safe on our roads by planning ahead, sharing the driving load, making use of rest areas and remaining aware of the conditions of roads where they are travelling.
Motorists should also be mindful of increased risks faced by those travelling on rural roads, which are expected to have suffered some significant damage due to recent flooding.
Road safety is everyone's responsibility.
