The Australian Government has today released its new Statement of Expectations (SoE) to guide NBN Co now that it has entered its fully operational phase.
In further news, NBN Co's Corporate Plan was also released today which responds to the Statement, while Tranche 5 of the Fibre to the Node/Fibre to the Premise upgrade initiative has rolled out. This will see an additional 300,000 homes and businesses able to access ultrafast internet speeds of up to 1 Gbps.
The SoE outlines clear objectives for NBN Co: to maximise the social and economic benefits of the network and support Australia becoming a leading digital economy and society by 2030.
The Government expects that NBN Co will take a demand driven approach in making commercially sound investments to meet the current and future needs of Australians, wherever they live.
The Statement also has a strong focus on NBN Co's ongoing role in improving outcomes in regional and remote Australia, supporting retailers to deliver affordable, reliable and resilient services to consumers, and promoting competition and innovation.
