The new campaign will help to remind and reinforce safe driving behaviours.
The Australian Government has launched the Safer Driving Starts with You road safety campaign to remind and reinforce safe driving behaviours.
The campaign will run until 15 April 2025 to reiterate the importance of safe driving whenever you’re on the road, including over the festive season.
It will reinforce the importance of road safety for all drivers and remind people that everyone has a role to play in reducing crashes, injuries and fatalities on our roads.
Australia is currently experiencing its highest number of road fatalities in years with the total annual deaths from road crashes trending upwards. Recent monthly road death statistics show 1,295 people died on Australian roads in the 12 months to 31 October 2024 – up 5.2% from the previous period.
The message of the campaign is ‘Don’t Let a Car Change who you are’ which asks drivers to self-reflect on the attitudes they bring to driving and encourages them to re-evaluate if they uphold their values when driving.
The campaign asks drivers to think about their own driving and assess the attitude they adopt when in the car.
The campaign builds on the efforts of states and territories to improve road safety by encouraging people re-engage with road safety messages.
