Have your say on the Streaming Services Reporting and Investment Scheme

The Australian Government has released a Discussion Paper on the Streaming Services Reporting and Investment Scheme for feedback.

The Streaming Services Reporting and Investment Scheme would incentivise and, as needed, require large subscription video on demand (SVOD) services to invest in Australian content.

Streaming services, such as Netflix, Disney, and Amazon Prime, have been increasing investment in Australian content over the past two years. However, regulation is needed to guarantee investment by these services in Australian content over the long-term.

This Discussion Paper provides stakeholders with an opportunity to provide their views on the design of the Scheme so that Australian content remains prominent and discoverable on streaming services.

Consultation on the Discussion Paper will close on 24 April 2022, with legislation to be introduced into Parliament following consideration of stakeholder views.

The Scheme forms part of the Australian Government’s Media Policy Statement, which has delivered a range of measures to modernise Australia’s media industry.
