Have your say on the independence of the ABC and SBS

Community invited to voice their opinion on the way forward for our national broadcasters

Public consultation opened on 20 July 2023 for the review of the independence of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) and Special Broadcasting Service (SBS).

The review will look at options for strengthening the independence of the national broadcasters, to safeguard against funding cuts and political interference.

The government has initiated the review as part of its commitment to implement 5-year funding terms for both the ABC and SBS, which commenced on 1 July 2023.

Feedback from the public will help inform the recommendations, with the department expected to provide its findings to government in the second half of 2023.

Both the ABC and SBS were involved in the development of the review’s terms of reference.

Consultation will close on Thursday 31 August 2023 at 5:00pm AEST.
