Have your say on Australia Post performance standards regulations

Next stage of consultation underway on Australia Post reforms.

The consultation will seek views on draft amendments to the Australian Postal Corporation (Performance Standards) Regulations 2019, which are required to deliver the Australian Government’s package of initial reforms to modernise for Australia Post:

  • reducing the frequency of letter delivery from every business day to every second business day
  • relaxing the delivery timeframe for regular letters by one day
  • allowing Australia Post to change the way it manages priority mail, so it can deliver services at a more commercial rate, and work with customers to set appropriate terms and conditions
  • updating the geographic classification for Australia Post retail outlets.

The reforms, announced in December 2023, will support Australia Post’s financial sustainability, allowing it to invest in products and services for the future that Australians want and need.

The draft Regulations were developed with input from a previous consultation undertaken between 2 March and 27 April 2023. The planned changes reflect the changing needs and expectations of communities over time in terms of postal deliveries.

Additional feedback is essential to ensure the amended Regulations can effectively deliver these important reforms to modernise Australia Post.

The changes to letter delivery are expected to be fully implemented by 1 July 2025 following a staged rollout across Australia.

Consultation ends on 29 February.
