Cook Islands and Niue gain access to PacificAus TV

Residents will be able to access over 2,000 hours of Australian commercial TV content each year as part of the initiative.

PacificAus TV is delivered by Free TV Australia and makes the broadcast rights to Australian TV content available to broadcast partners in Pacific nations.

Cook Islands Television, Vaka TV, and the Broadcasting Corporation of Niue have joined 14 free-to-air broadcasters in Fiji, Kiribati, Nauru, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu, and Vanuatu that already participate in the initiative.

Each broadcaster will be able to select content according to their programming strategies, interests and audiences.

Sports programming is an important element of PacificAus TV with Australian news, current affairs, children’s programs, drama, lifestyle and entertainment programs also available.

PacificAus TV received $28.4 million over five years from 2022-23 as part of the Indo-Pacific Broadcasting Strategy (IPBS) to expand access to Australian TV programs.

The Indo-Pacific Broadcasting Strategy seeks to increase access to trusted and reliable news, deliver quality content and foster engagement across the region, including through measures like this.
