Feedback will help shape reforms to the Act to keep Australians safe online.
The Australian Government has opened a public consultation as part of a review of the Online Safety Act 2021, and is calling for individuals and stakeholders to have their say by making a submission. The Issues Paper includes a series of questions to help guide your submission. Please respond to the questions of interest to you – you do not need to respond to every question.
The independent statutory review is being conducted by Ms Delia Rickard PSM to examine the effectiveness of the Act’s regulatory approach. It will determine whether changes are needed to make sure Australia’s online safety laws remain fit-for-purpose. This includes examining issues such as online hate and new harms raised by emerging technologies such as generative artificial intelligence.
Feedback from this consultation will inform recommendations of the review, ensuring they reflect Australians’ expectations and experiences online.
The consultation closes at 5.00pm AEST on Friday 21 June 2024.
The final report from the review will be provided to the Australian Government by 31 October 2024.
