Better mobile coverage for regional communities

Outcomes of the Improving Mobile Coverage Round of the Mobile Black Spot Program.

The Australian Government is delivering grants totalling $37.2 million to improve mobile coverage and quality of service in identified locations across regional Australia.

The funding has been awarded under the Improving Mobile Coverage Round of the Mobile Black Spot Program (MBSP) following a competitive grant process.

The MBSP is a government initiative that invests in telecommunications infrastructure to improve mobile coverage and competition across Australia. This dedicated round is funding Telstra and TPG to build 41 new base stations that will deliver improved mobile coverage and quality of service to 42 Target Locations.

As well as benefiting local residents and visitors, the projects will also improve mobile coverage on a number of regional highways—ensuring motorists have access to vital mobile services in case of an emergency.

A full list of locations is available at www.infrastructure.gov.au/mbsp. The rollout schedule will be published on the carriers' websites once the contracts have been executed. Find out more:
