The Minister for Communications, the Hon Michelle Rowland MP, today convened a roundtable to reflect on Australia’s 3G switch off.
Recently, the 3G network switch off commenced across Australia to help boost the capacity, speed and reliability of 4G and 5G networks.
The 3G switch off is now complete, with TPG Telecom/Vodafone finalising their switch off on 30 January and Telstra and Optus beginning their switch off from 28 October 2024.
The Minister for Communications, the Hon Michelle Rowland MP, today convened a roundtable with the telecommunications industry, regulators and consumer advocates to reflect on Australia’s 3G switch off.
Participants discussed lessons learned from the 3G switch off, and how this knowledge could be taken forward as Australia prepares for future technology transitions.
A communique has been published from today’s roundtable meeting as Government and industry continue to work in partnership to embed learnings in future processes, and deliver better outcomes for Australians.
