The Assistant Minister for Regional Development and Territories has agreed to the Norfolk Island Regional Council (NIRC) election now taking place on Saturday, 14 November 2020.
This follows a request from the elected members of the Norfolk Island Regional Council. The election date has been postponed to enable an independent governance and financial audit of NIRC operations to be undertaken.
Voting is compulsory for all Norfolk Island residents. Please ensure you are enrolled to vote before the new cut-off date of 5 October 2020 by checking your enrolment on the Commonwealth electoral roll.
NIRC has engaged the Australian Election Company to run the election. The Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Communications (the department), which administers Australian Government services on Norfolk Island, will perform the role of the Electoral Commission for the election.
More information about the election will be provided to the community through Island media and the NIRC elections webpage maintained by the department at www.regional.gov.au/territories/norfolk_island/election/index.aspx
