Community Matters—Responding on education

The Australian Government provides regular updates to the community on the development and progress of programs and services for Norfolk Island.

The Australian Government values the contribution and engagement from everyone on Norfolk Island, including teaching staff and the parents and community members, who support the school on a daily basis. Securing a way forward with a new service delivery partner is one of the Australian Government's highest priorities.

Following on from a series of meetings about education transition on Island last week, the department has been working closely with the NSW Government to provide responses to questions asked by both the NICS P&C and teachers.

In line with the Australian Government's commitment to keep the community informed about the status of the work we are doing to secure an alternate provider, next week the department will be circulating update #4 of an Education Information series as well as an update for teachers which will address as many of the questions from last week as comprehensively as possible. These updates will be available from the P&C committee, NICS Principal or by contacting us at NI.Education@infrastructure.gov.au

Minister Nola Marino is working hard on behalf of the community to secure a long term education partner for Norfolk Island. This will give students, staff, parents and the school community the certainty it needs going forward. While this work progresses, the Administrator, Eric Hutchinson will keep the Principal and staff informed to ensure the community receives information as it becomes available.
