Telecommunications in New Developments Map glossary

The following terms are set out based on how they are displayed in the Telecommunications in New Developments Network Mapping Specifications.

  • Developer – A person (or its agent) who has legal responsibility for a real estate development project.
  • Carrier – A carrier is a person that holds a carrier licence issued by the Australian Communications and Media Authority. The carrier is the person that either owns or operates a specified telecommunications network in a new development.
  • UID – The specified carrier’s unique identifier for the development project.  The UID consists of an alphabetic descriptor identifying the carrier and a numeric identifier designating the development.
  • Stage – The stage of the development the data relates to. If this field doesn’t have a stage number, it means the development doesn’t have multiple stages.
  • Developer Name – The name of the developer who is responsible for the development.
  • Development Name – The name of the development, either official or working.
  • Development Nature – The purpose and function of the specified development, e.g. whether it is for commercial, residential or industrial purposes.
    • Check with Carrier – Contact specified carrier for details.
    • Commercial – A development primarily being used for commercial activities such as wholesaling, retailing, office and transport.
    • Industrial – A development used for processing, production, assembly and warehousing of manufactured goods, including factories and plants.
    • Mixed Development – A development that has a mix of commercial and residential premises.
    • Residential – A development comprised of dwelling units. Residential buildings can be stand-alone houses, apartments or flats, or other residential buildings.
    • Public/Private Institution – A development that is to be used in the provision of services to the public, whether by private or public providers. This category includes schools, universities, health facilities (including hospitals), Government buildings, aged care facilities and entertainment and recreational buildings (libraries, museums, etc).
  • Development Type – The type of development specified, e.g. building, refurbishment, or sub-division.
    • Refurbishment – An existing building that is significantly renovated for renewed use, to the extent it needs new telecommunications infrastructure.
    • Sub-division – A single area of land that has been divided into more than one lot.
  • Estimated Number of Lots or Units – The estimated number of lots or units in a development or the specified stage of a development. This number is estimated because the number of lots in a specific stage can change as construction on the development progresses.
  • Status – The status refers to the stage in the construction process that the telecommunications infrastructure has reached e.g. contracted, under construction or ready for service. If no stage is specified, users can check with the carrier.
    • Check with Carrier – Contact specified carrier for details.
    • Contracted – The developer has contracted the specified carrier to service the development at some future date.
    • Ready for Service – The premises is passed by a carrier’s active network and retail service providers can begin to place orders for end-user services with the carrier.
    • Under Construction – The specified carrier has commenced construction activities to provide telecommunications infrastructure in the development.
  • Developer Application Date – The date the developer submitted the application to the specified carrier to service a development.
  • Contract Date – The date the contract to provide telecommunications infrastructure was signed by both the carrier and the developer.
  • Estimated Service Date – The estimated date on which retail service providers can begin to place orders for end-user services with the carrier. This date is an estimate because the service date may change as construction of the development and/or telecommunications network progresses.
  • Technology Type – The type of technology used by the specified carrier to service premises in a new development.
