Characteristics of Employment and Business Activity in Cultural and Creative Sectors

New analysis released today provides insights into the employment characteristics of workers in the cultural and creative sector.

A fact sheet released today by the Bureau of Communications and Arts Research (BCAR) finds that most workers in the cultural and creative sector were in full time or long-term employment at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The analysis examines the employment characteristics of workers in the cultural and creative sector based on different data sources. The analysis also shows how some parts of the cultural and creative sector have maintained employment at a level consistent or higher than the rest of the economy, while other parts have experienced a greater decline in employment.

The cultural and creative sector includes Broadcasting, electronic or digital media, and film; Design; Environmental heritage; Fashion; Libraries and archives; Literature and print media; Museums; Music composition and publishing; Other culture goods manufacturing and sales; Performing arts; Supporting activities; and Visual arts and crafts.

The Government is delivering substantial economic measures, which include support for workers and organisations in the cultural and creative sector. Detail on these measures is available at www.arts.gov.au/covid-19-update.
