This week Australia and Papua New Guinea signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Cooperation in Information and Communications Technology.

This MoU commits Australia and Papua New Guinea to work collaboratively to enable the digital economy, ensure digital safety and build capacity for the ICT sector in Papua New Guinea.

The MoU was signed by our Secretary, Mr Simon Atkinson, and the Acting Secretary of Papua New Guinea's Department of Communications and Information Technology, Mr Steven Matainaho.

The signing was also witnessed by the Hon Timothy Masiu MP, Papua New Guinea's Minister for Communications and Information Technology, and representatives of a number of Australian and Papua New Guinean agencies that will play an integral part in implementing the MoU.

Under the MoU, both countries will meet annually to discuss the strategic issues and priorities of each nation. The MoU will allow the departments and agencies involved to work together on these priorities, and share our hands-on experience to harness the benefits of digital connectivity.
