Guide to submitting a VIN to NEVDIS

Date published:

This guide explains how Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) are added to the VIN database, which is managed by the National Exchange of Vehicle and Driver Information System (NEVDIS) on the department’s behalf.

The guide is designed to assist new entrants to the Australian vehicle market, including approval holders for trailers with an aggregate trailer mass (ATM) of 4.5 tonnes or less (low ATM trailers) when they are providing VINs to NEVDIS.

It describes:

  • what a VIN submission is
  • when a VIN should be submitted
  • who can provide VINs to NEVDIS, and
  • what to include in a VIN submission.
