Designated shipper bodies

A designated shipper body is an association which, in the Minister's opinion, represents the interests of Australian shippers. A peak designated shipper body represents these interests generally while a secondary shipper body represents these interests in relation to a particular trade, particular kinds of goods or a particular part of Australia. These shipper bodies are designated under Section 10.03 of Part X of the Competition and Consumer Act 2010 in accordance with Regulation 34 of the Competition and Consumer Regulations 2010.

On 1 October 2018, the Competition and Consumer (Designated Shipper Bodies) Declaration 2018 came into effect. This was amended by the Competition and Consumer (Designated Shipper Bodies) Amendment Declaration 2019 which added the Australian Peak Shippers Association Inc. as a designated inwards peak shipper body from 8 March 2019. A copy of the compiled Instrument is available at https://www.legislation.gov.au/F2018L00593/latest/text.
