The Australian Government invites comments on the Green Paper, to support development of the White Paper. Comment is sought in particular in response to the questions posed throughout the Green Paper, and summarised in Appendix A – Summary of Questions.

What will be the outcome of this consultation?

Your submission will inform the Aviation White Paper, which is scheduled for release in mid-2024.

The Issue

The government has committed to delivering a new Aviation White Paper to guide continued recovery of the Australian aviation industry from the COVID-19 pandemic and maximise opportunities for growth, innovation and sustainability. The White Paper will examine the government policy and economic reforms necessary to promote the efficiency, safety, sustainability, productivity and competitiveness of the aviation sector through to 2050.

On 7 February 2023, the Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government, the Hon Catherine King MP, released the Terms of Reference for the Aviation White Paper. A period of consultation following the Terms of Reference release included a submissions process and series of roundtable sessions. Feedback from this consultation period informed the development of the Aviation Green Paper.

Outcome

Submissions on the Aviation Green Paper closed on 30 November 2023. Submissions made on the Aviation Green Paper are published in full below (unless it was indicated at the time of submission that a submission was to remain in-confidence).

The public consultation has been an important opportunity for the Australian community and industry to have their say. The input is important to support government in making decisions on the policies to be included in the Aviation White Paper, which is expected to be released in mid 2024.

Submissions will be released on the department’s website in tranches as they are processed. All submissions must be reviewed to ensure that the privacy of submitters is respected.
