Well we"ve won an award here today for innovation and productivity in the Local Government Awards through building a lifestyle project. It was a regional playground.

I think ‘recreational hub’ would be probably a better name than ‘playground’. It's just a generic term, ‘playground’, but it's obviously more than that; I"ve called it a park on steroids.

We"ve used quite a number of methods in procuring and delivering the project and building on with technology to create something that's not your standard playground.

We"ve got smart Wi-Fi which tells people of issues in the park. We can manage and look at our resource levels in terms of how much recycling we"re using, how much waste is generated. We"ve also got C.C.T.V. there which is linked back into a feed to the police station.
We"ve used a specific emphasis on what we call ‘intergenerational equity’ where we"ve got equity in all generations.

We try to include all different types of people regardless of their ability or their age.

One of our key point indicators was we needed to have 1,000 visitations a week, we"ve well and truly exceeded that.

The dynamics of the park have changed hugely because there's something there for everybody.

To nominate and actually receive an award like this is just amazing, and vindicates all the work you put into it.

Straight away we know that we"ve got something that's unique.
