Part X (International Liner Shipping)

The Department is responsible for the regulation of international liner cargo shipping under Part X of the Competition and Consumer Act 2010 (Part X). Amongst other objectives, Part X aims to ensure that Australian exporters and importers have continued access to regular and reliable liner cargo shipping services at internationally competitive freight rates.

The department is responsible for administering maritime safety legislation for the Australian Government. Australia’s primary framework for maritime safety is established under the Navigation Act 2012 (Navigation Act) and the Marine Safety Domestic Commercial Vessel) National Law Act 2012 (National Law Act).
