Mobile Black Spot Program Round 8—Project Noticeboard

Take a look at our Project Noticeboard to find out if there are any potential project proposals targeting resilient mobile coverage in disaster prone areas that you may wish to develop into an application for Round 8 of the Mobile Black Spot Program.

Organisation: Shire of Manjimup

State: WA
Location: Manjimup Southeast including Middlesex and Smith Brook

Project description:

The area has significant coverage issues, black spots, poor connectivity, dropouts and unreliable data that affect business operations, tourism and community safety.

Residents and first responders, have raised concerns that in emergencies they may be unable to contact authorities, receive mobilisation information and delay response times in these areas.

The region, which is 90% bushfire-prone, experiences extreme weather, power outages and damage, disrupting communication networks.

The closure of 3G has worsened coverage, particularly in the listed areas, with farmers who once had it are now having to travel for better signal reception.

Organisation: Shire of Serpentine-Jarrahdale

State: WA
Location: Karrakup

Project description:

Mobile phone black spots along Nettleton Road, between Admiral Road South and Mandejal Road, create significant safety and communication issues for residents and emergency responders.

This area, including parts of Byford and Karrakup, experienced a recent bushfire emergency warning on January 22nd, 2024.

The black spots limit residents' ability to call for help and receive critical alerts and hinder emergency responders' coordination.

The goal is to improve mobile connectivity, enhancing safety, emergency access and communication during crises, fostering a more resilient community.

Organisation: Josh Wilson MP, Federal Member for Fremantle

State: WA
Location: Banjup WA 6164

Project description:

As Perth’s southern districts continue to expand, it is vital that growing populations have access to stable mobile connection. Banjup is a high-risk bushfire area where access to emergency services is crucial to the community's safety. Residents have also expressed concern about poor mobile connectivity adversely affecting their work and education activities, and access to health services. Approximately 130 residences still rely on the ageing and unreliable copper NBN network. Secure mobile connectivity becomes more important every year, and Banjup residents need stable mobile connection to ensure their safety and wellbeing.
