Progress in Australian Regions Dashboard shows how regions are performing

The new Progress in Australian Regions Dashboard helps answer the question of how our regions are progressing, by tracking the trends of regions over time.

A new dashboard released today by the Bureau of Communications, Arts and Regional Research (BCARR) in collaboration with the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) helps answer the question of how our regions are progressing, by tracking the trends of regions over time.

The 2020 Progress in Australian Regions Dashboard shows the performance of Australian regions on labour market, infrastructure, housing, economic activity, the environment, demography and wellbeing.

The new Dashboard brings together information about Australia's regions in a consistent format from a range of different sources, including the Australian Bureau of Statistics. It is designed to be used by individuals, community groups, government, business and industry alike to support their work, decisions and investments in our regions. The new online dashboard allows users to explore information about their areas to ensure this vital data is more accessible for public use.

Dr David Gruen, Australian Statistician and Head of Data Profession, says: "The Progress in Australian Regions Dashboard is an innovative example of harnessing data to provide insight on Australia's regions. It demonstrates the value of organisations combining their expertise, allowing data to be used and shared so that we can all better understand and respond to the needs of regional Australia.

Some of the indicators demonstrate significant positive growth, including an increase in life expectancy across most regions between 2012 and 2018.
