Temporary reduction in air passenger services due to COVID-19 outbreak

The current COVID-19 situation across the eastern states of mainland Australia is causing disruptions to the domestic aviation sector, including to Norfolk Island air services.

In response to significantly reduced passenger demand resulting from this, the Australian Government, in consultation with Qantas, is temporarily reducing the number of air passenger services to Norfolk Island over the coming weeks.

The following flights will no longer run:

Qantas will rebook passengers on any cancelled flights to the next available service to minimise any inconvenience to travellers.

My office will also work with travel agents and tourism operators to ensure appropriate changes are made to visitors’ accommodation, itineraries and other arrangements affected by the flight schedule adjustments.

Should passengers have any questions about booking changes, they are advised to contact Qantas on +61 2 8222 2422, online via qantas.com or through their travel agent.

Given the ongoing uncertainty and escalating travel restrictions, I have asked the Department and Qantas to ensure early notice to passengers and businesses of any future changes so that they can adapt their arrangements.

The pandemic continues to present unprecedented global challenges to the aviation sector. I would like to thank Qantas for helping to ensure the continuity of flights to Norfolk Island through this during this period of uncertainty.

I would also like to thank Norfolk Island residents and businesses for their continuing patience and understanding as we work to ensure the health and safety of residents and visitors to Norfolk Island.
