The Australian Government acknowledges the range of views put forward by the Norfolk Island community about proposed traffic law changes and is preparing for further consultation.
The Department has now reviewed the feedback provided through written submissions, with comments focused on the proposed change to the practice of ‘ute tray riding’.
The Australian Government will commence a second consultation stage in October 2019 to find out more about these concerns and other key issues raised.
This engagement will include targeted meetings with key stakeholders and a drop-in event for community members.
If not included in one of the targeted meetings, community members have the opportunity to participate through the informal drop-in event where comments and views can be shared. Details on the location and times for this will be available shortly.
We are committed to ongoing community engagement as we progress this process. The Department will report back on the outcomes of these sessions, with information published on the website and disseminated through my office and local media.
Information about the written submissions received, including a summary of responses, can be found at www.regional.gov.au/territories/norfolk_island/traffic-laws-public-submissions.aspx.
Anyone with questions in the lead-up to the second round of consultation can contact my office by email: office.administrator@regional.gov.au or phone 22152.
