This chart pack provides a summary of population, employment, housing and liveability trends for our cities and regions. Key findings include:

  • The population in capital cities is expected to grow more rapidly than regional Australia over the next 12 years
  • Service industries will drive employment growth both in capital cities and regional Australia over the five years to November 2025.
  • Inner regional, Outer regional and Remote areas experienced strong growth in their dwelling approvals from 2016 to 2021.
  • Capital cities have better access to health and education services and greater walkability.
