CR 47: Helmets for child bicyclists—some biomedical considerations (1986)

The epidemiology of bicycle crashes identifies helmets as a major countermeasure, especially for children. Head impact tolerance, impact site, need for penetration resistance and sizing are reviewed, but not heat dissipation, though it is an important user consideration. A separate class of helmet for very young children is recommended. Current helmets are deficient in small sizes.
