RAWS self-assessment tool

Use our quick online Registered Automotive Workshop Scheme (RAWS) Self-Assessment tool to step you through your viability to qualify and become a RAW. Your responses will indicate your eligibility to operate a RAW and provide a list of steps you need to complete for your application.

Before you begin the self-assessment, you will need to read Steps to becoming a RAW and the Guide to the Registered Automotive Workshop Scheme (RAWS).

Q4. Is your company ISO 9001:2008 or 2015 certified?
Q5. Have you identified the make and model of the vehicle you want to supply to the Australian Market?
Q6. Is the vehicle on the Register of Specialist and Enthusiast Vehicles (SEVS)?
Q7. Have you completed and passed the fit and proper person checklist?
Q8. Are you able to supply a police check for all key personnel?
Q9. Have you identified a VIC Signatory for your RAW?
Q10. There are several fees associated with a RAW application. Are you aware of the costs?

When completing your application for RAWS you will need to supply the:

  • Company details, ISO 9001:2008 or 2015 certification, the make and model of vehicle from the SEVs register you are supplying.

You are not ready to apply for the RAWS. You will need to complete the following:

Q1. To register as a RAW you can either use an existing company or set up a new company to operate the workshop. An application can only be made in the name of a proprietary limited company.

Q2. You will need to register your Company with Australian Securities Investment Commission (ASIC), information and costs are available from their website.

Q3. The Company must have an Australian Business Number (ABN) from the Australian Tax Office. A person cannot be associated with more than one RAW.

Q4. You will need to certify your company to ISO 9001:2008 or 2015 "Quality Management Systems", and have it endorsed as meeting the requirements of procedure 24. Information and costs for ISO 9001-2008 or 2015 are available from from Standards Australia and the JAS-ANZ website.

Q5. You will need to check the Register of Specialist and Enthusiast Vehicles (SEVS) to identify the make and model of the vehicle you will be supplying to the Australian Market.

Q6. If the vehicle is not on SEVS you will need to make an application for that vehicle to go on SEVS.

Q7. You will need to complete the Fit and Proper Person Questionnaire from the RAWS website

Q8. All personnel must have passed a police check. You can obtain a police check by completing the forms provided on the AFP web site and sending the completed forms and fee to the AFP.

Q9. Check the Legislation, Section 49 3 C 1 for the relevant qualifications required. The designated person will need to sit an exam with this Department to qualify.
