Transport of Dangerous Goods

The Australian states and territories have responsibility for the road and rail transport of dangerous goods in Australia. For technical information on the transport of dangerous goods by road and rail in Australia, please contact the Competent Authority in your state or territory.

The National Transport Commission maintains and updates the Australian Code for the Transport of Dangerous Goods by Road and Rail (the ADG Code) and its associated Model Law. The ADG Code is currently in edition 7.4.

The Department of Infrastructure and Regional Development (the Department) works with the states and territories, and the National Transport Commission, to promote best practice and internationally harmonised legislation for the land transport of dangerous goods in Australia. The Department provides policy advice on national and international dangerous goods matters, and provides secretariat support to the Competent Authorities Panel (CAP).
