P Drivers Project
In December 2004, the Australian, Victorian and NSW Governments jointly announced plans to develop and trial a post-licence driver education project in partnership with the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI), the NSW-based Insurance Australia Group (IAG) and the Royal Automobile Club of Victoria (RACV). The Australian Government has contributed $3 million towards the $9.3 million project.
The project is one of the first of its kind undertaken anywhere in the world. It aims to implement and assess new approaches to driver education which seek to raise awareness about risk factors, improve decision making and provide novice drivers with insight into their own skill limitations through experiential learning.
The Victorian Government (VicRoads) has managed the project since December 2008.
