Regional Solutions Program* (Regional Services, Development &
Local Government Division)
The objective of the Regional Solutions Program is to provide assistance to regional, rural and remote areas of Australia to build their capacity to identify and implement opportunities. Communities are encouraged to:
  • have ownership of solutions to local problems; and
  • achieve self-sustainability through economic diversification.
Regional and Rural Development Grant*
(formerly: Rural Development Centre Grant) (Regional Services, Development &
Local Government Division)
Provide better understanding of socioeconomic change in regional Australia.
Rural Communities Program* (Regional Services, Development &
Local Government Division)
The aim of the Rural Communities Program (RCP) was to strengthen regional and rural Australia by encouraging diverse, dynamic and self-reliant rural communities. The RCP provided funding for a range of projects including:
  • community planning
  • financial counselling
  • information services technology
  • community development
  • information provision
  • projects of national significance.
DOTARS has prime carriage of the program, with the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry—Australia responsible for the financial counselling component.
Understanding Rural Australia Program* (Regional Services, Development &
Local Government Division)
The Understanding Rural Australia Program focuses on understanding, supporting and managing the socioeconomic changes in rural and regional communities. Initiatives supported under this program are aimed at progressing the technique and processes that foster sustainable community development.atsb
ATSB Road Safety Research Program (Australian Transport Safety Bureau) Under the ATSB Road Safety Research Program, discretionary grants are paid to various recipients for road safety research projects.
Other Safety Grants Program (Australian Transport Safety Bureau)p The Other Safety Grants Program includes discretionary Commonwealth sponsorships and contributions towards national road safety seminars and conferences.

In addition to the Departments discretionary grant programs, the Minister approved payments to the States and Territories under the following Acts:

  • Australian Land Transport Development Act 1998;
  • Stevedoring Levy (Collections) Act 1998;
  • Roads to Recovery Act 2000.

Payments made in respect of these Acts are the subject of separate reports to Parliament.
